In our previous post, we talked about the Modern style which is frequently mistaken with the Contemporary interior design style.
Today we will take a closer look at the second one and point to the main differences between them.
CONTEMPORARY
differs from modern as it represents a design based on the here and now.
The primary difference distinguishing modern and contemporary design styles is that modern is a strict interpretation of design style which was established in the 20th century. Contemporary on the other hand is more seamless and can represent a sense of presence with less adherence to one particular style.
The most apparent and distinctive element of a contemporary style interior design is the line. It usually is strong visible and evident. The focus is on architectural details, use of bold color blocks, high ceilings, bare windows, and geometric shapes as well as in wall art and sculpture.
DECORATION
When it comes to furniture pieces are usually bold but at the same time simple, without curves or decoration. Often are used geometric shapes which are essential but smooth and clean. The color palette is often in neutral tones, using the natural fibers found in linen, wool, silk, jute, cotton to add textural appeal. Accessories in clean geometric shapes add a shot of color and texture.
Color schemes are quite neutral with a shout out with a bold color on a furniture piece that stands out. Sofas, chairs, and ottomans often have exposed legs.
Skirts, trims, fringes, or tassels should be avoided for beds. Ruffles, excessive carved details, fringe, or floral prints are not recommended. Forget about cute and small and choose basic, bare, bold, and structural pieces.
One of the frequently used elements In contemporary rooms is plants. They should be large and dramatic but put in simple containers. Large flourishing with unusual leaves works better than small arrangements. If possible you can place upward-focused lights around a large plant on the floor. Arrangements need to be kept in good condition and well taken care of.
